CCMH- Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Diagnosis

Dual/Co-Occurring Diagnosis

Many patients have Dual Diagnosis, meaning they have more than one diagnosable condition. The term dual diagnosis is commonly used to describe those patients who have both a substance abuse issue and an additional diagnosis such as bi-polar (depression), anxiety, personality, or mood disorder. Sometimes, the common term is co-occurring disorders because there are more than two and perhaps three or more diagnosable disorders.

Patients who are chemically dependent typically engage in treatment through the Addictions Program at CCMH. However, if another condition, such as depression, anxiety, or a more serious diagnosable condition is present, we have the resources at CCMH to help address that problem as well. Many of our staff our dually trained as both addictions and mental health specialists. We also have the other specialized departments under one roof to address our patients concerns.

If the primary diagnosis is something other than addiction or dependency based, it could be that substance abuse or addiction treatment would occur as a secondary diagnosis while working primarily with another department at CCMH. We do have dual-diagnosis therapists who work throughout the CCMH agency including Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Developmental Disabilities, and Counseling/MED.

Our staff of experienced professionals utilize their clinical expertise to help the individual obtain long term abstinence from substance abuse problems as well as other problematic mental health issues. Please contact us as to how you may address the many complexities of mental health treatment.
